How to improve Chinese pronunciation

Posted on 2018-10-022022-04-16 By admin

Many Chinese learners care about pronuciation. this article talk about some tips for Chinese pronunciation, i think it will help you understand How to improve Chinese pronunciation.

1. Master the basic rules of pronunciation and tone.

It’s not difficult to know basic greetings, such as “hello” and “how are you” in Chinese, but it’s completely different to go beyond warm-up greetings. As a beginner, the most important thing is to be familiar with all Pinyin pronunciation, spelling rules and tone sandhi rules. If possible, you’d better find a professional teacher who can speak standard Mandarin and explain the differences between these languages. Similar sounds are correct.

There are many learning experiences to share on how to improve your Chinese pronunciation. As for tone, in addition to regular tone exercises, some learners share their methods, such as mastering without tone markers.

2. Enough investment: create your own language environment

If you are learning Chinese in China or are lucky to be surrounded by a group of native speakers, try to talk to them with what you have learned. If you don’t understand at first, don’t feel embarrassed or upset. This is a fairly common stage. What you need to do is at least distinguish the words you have learned and be more familiar with the tone of Chinese. Gradually, you can connect all the words and find out what they are saying.

3. Sufficient output

a. Practice words, phrases and sentences

Don’t just practice single Chinese characters. There will be voice changes in voice flow, especially tone. When you first start learning Mandarin pronunciation, it is beneficial to practice paired tones. Start with the words you already know, such as good (H) ě nh ǎ o. Very good). This phrase uses the second sound first, and then the third sound. Say this phrase out loud several times and listen to the tone and rhythm of the syllable. Learning this natural language rhythm will help you pronounce the new words you encounter. Moreover, improving the accuracy of your Mandarin pronunciation will help you speak sentences more fluently. Of course, t is very difficult, but after experiencing it, longer sentences will be much easier for you.

b. Slow down and keep clear

Be careful not to speak too fast. It’s natural to speak at a normal speed like native speakers. But you are just a beginner and may not be able to pronounce the standard sound. Speed is the last thing you should care about. Slow down! Make your voice clear and correct. If people don’t understand you, would you really do that? How fast do you speak? After all, successful communication is the goal, and accuracy is the most important.

c、 Practice makes perfect

So the only key is to practice, practice, practice again. If one doesn’t work, do it twice, three times… You’ll eventually get it.

4. Study from mistakes

As you know, Chinese people are very kind, so encouragement and praise will be the main trend for them to comment on your speech. Confidence is necessary, but their kindness is not the reason why you ignore mistakes and foreign pronunciation. Ask your Chinese friends to point out your mistakes and specific problems directly. Of course, if your friend is a professional teacher, it would be better. Then write down your common mistakes and analyze them one by one. This process will help you overcome the problem. Sometimes hearing so many mistakes may make you depressed, but you will soon learn a lot from it, which will help you improve your thinking faster.

5. Review at any time

Getting accurate pronunciation is a long battle. Don’t be naive, as if you can master the real pronunciation at once. Record all your mistakes and misunderstandings about certain concepts. Review your notes from time to time. It will attract your attention and remind you of the right way to behave. One day you will finally master them all.
