History of Chinese Kung Fu
Wushu originated from the productive labor of ancient Chinese ancestors. In the production activities of hunting pigs, people have gradually accumulated the skills of splitting, chopping and stabbing. These primitive offensive and defensive skills are the basis for the formation of Wushu technology.
Wushu sprouted in the primitive society. In the clan commune era, tribal wars often occurred, so the experience of fighting on the battlefield promoted the germination of Wushu.
Martial arts took shape in the slave society. After the establishment of the Xia Dynasty, after continuous wars, Wushu further developed into practicality and standardization in order to meet the needs of actual combat. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, Taiji theory came into being, which established the system of Chinese Wushu.
Wushu developed in feudal society. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, wrestling and fencing were popular, as well as “knife dance” and “force dance”. The Tang Dynasty began to implement the martial arts examination system, which played a great role in promoting the development of martial arts. During the song and Yuan Dynasties, folk martial arts training activities with folk association martial arts organizations as the main body flourished. The Ming and Qing Dynasties was a period of great development of Wushu. There were many schools and different kinds of boxing, forming the main boxing systems such as Taijiquan, Xingyi boxing and Bagua boxing.
In modern times, Wushu has gradually become an organic part of modern Chinese sports. In 1927, the central national art museum was established in Nanjing. In 1936, the Chinese Wushu team went to the Berlin Olympic Games to perform.
After the founding of the people’s Republic of China, Wushu has developed vigorously. In 1999, the International Wushu Federation was absorbed as a member of the official international sports federations of the IOC, which means that Wushu will soon become an Olympic project and the further realization of the grand goal of “promoting Wushu to the world”!
